The Bay Bridge Blog (this site) will continue to report on news of the Bay Bridge, probably a lot less frequently than in the last few days, if the repair holds up.

Bridge likely to open Monday AM

511.org: “The bridge is expected to open sometime this morning.”

SF Chron: “Things have gone very well overnight,” Caltrans spokesman Bart Ney told reporters at a briefing early today. “We completed a lot of the work that we needed to do. It does look like now that we’re going to get the bride open today.”

Sunday evening roundup: No bridge tomorrow morning

511.org: “The Bay Bridge remains closed in both directions until further notice. The bridge remains closed AT LEAST through the Monday morning commute. Motorists are urged to plan ahead and use alternate routes. Caltrans crews are working to reopen the Bay Bridge as quickly as possible. Check back for transit updates and for an updated bridge reopening schedule as more information becomes available.”

SF Chron: “Speaking at a press conference this evening, the officials would not estimate when the bridge might reopen.”

Tony Alfrey: “Everyone was in a big rush to open the bridge after Labor Day weekend, so some ‘repairs’ were made, but not much detail was available as to what was actually done. On the evening of Oct. 27, in the middle of rush hour, the repair broke. Let’s see what this is all about…”

Bay Bridge may remain closed beyond weekend

Reports from news organizations and Caltrans indicate that the bridge may not re-open in time for the Monday morning commute.

SF Chron: “Caltrans officials hope to find a solution, test it and reopen the bridge today, but held open the possibility that it would remain closed through the Monday morning commute – or beyond.”

511.org: “The Bay Bridge is closed in both directions until further notice. It will remain closed at least through Saturday morning. Caltrans crews are working to reopen the Bay Bridge as quickly as possible, with a goal of reopening the span sometime this weekend. Motorists are advised to plan travel alternatives for the weekend.”

BART continues “running longer trains, increased service following Bay Bridge closure.”

BART to provide overnight service

If the Bay Bridge remains closed, BART will provide hourly overnight service from Friday, October 30 to Saturday, October 31 and from Saturday, October 31 to Sunday, November 1. Service will be provided for 14 stations on two modified routes during the hours when BART would normally not operate.

Normal Sunday morning service will start at 8 a.m.

Don’t forget Daylight Savings Time will end at 2 a.m. on Sunday morning, so clocks will be set back 1 hour.

BART customers break ridership record again

Press release: “For the second time in as many days, BART customers have set a new, single-day ridership record. On Thursday, trains carried 442,000 riders beating the previous day’s record high of 437,200 riders. Thursday there were 86,000 or 24% more customers than on a typical Thursday.”

Caltrans: Goal to re-open late Friday

Friday morning update: STILL CLOSED

The bridge is still closed on Friday morning, but according to the map, traffic has eased through the Bay Area, presumably as commuters take Friday off or have found other ways into the city.

SF Chron: “The Bay Bridge did not reopen in time for this morning’s commute, and Caltrans had no estimate of when the span would be back in business.”
