Crowded BART parking lots anticipated

BART ran a press release earlier this evening: “BART is running longer trains during peak commute hours and adding extra trains throughout the rest of the day’s service, in response to the Bay Bridge closure that began Tuesday night. Caltrans has announced that Bridge repairs will not be completed until Friday morning.

“Parking will be extremely tight at all BART stations with parking. Consider carpooling or getting dropped off at the station. Consider using Park and Ride lots on your commute route. AC Transit buses will detour to four East Bay BART stations so passengers can continue to San Francisco on BART.”

Bridge will not open in time for morning commute

According to @BayBridgeInfo on Twitter the bridge will not open in time for the Friday morning commute.

“Repairs are anticipated to be completed by Friday morning but not in time for morning commute. Several enhancements being made to eyebar repair, detailed image on baybridgeinfo.org.”

Introducing the Bay Bridge Blog

Once again the Bay Bridge is in the news, and this time it seems obvious it’s going to be in the news for years to come. So, what to do?

1. Take BART (as we were before).

2. Enjoy the company of our fellow East Bay folk (ditto).

3. Start a blog!

We’ll start with the status of the bridge as of Thursday evening…

As of 3PM: “The Bay Bridge remains CLOSED in both directions. Caltrans is unable to predict the time of the bridge re-opening and is recommending travelers plan for alternatives to the Bay Bridge for their Thursday evening commute. Motorists are advised to expect delays, use alternate routes, and plan ahead for commutes throughout the day. Check back for transit updates and for an updated bridge reopening schedule as more information becomes available.”
